Cross-border lifesaving services
 |
Members of the DLRG Merzig / Wadern told us, that operating crossing borders is very difficult.
If there's an accident close to the border on French
territory, German rescue teams are not allowed to help.
The cooperation
between Luxembourg and Germany is working well, sais the DLRG Wadern / Merzig, but also only in extreme situations.
Officialy, cooperation is only allowed in so-called disaster situations like for example if a Cattenom-meltdown ( Cattenom is a nearby French nuclear power plant) or
a natural catastrophe occurs.
But there’s a close
cooperation between the
University hospital in Homburg and the Special hospital for burn injuries in Freyming/Merlebach(F).

Cross-border firefighting |
|
The
cooperation of German, French and Luxembourgian firefighters
on both sides of the borders works really well.
In case of an emergency, the closest fire department is informed, no matter which country is concerned.
And there’s also a German-Luxembourgian joint fire department of firemen from Born and Metzdorf. |
