Education in the ‘three countries corner’
 |
The main field of school education in the borderregions is to
teach the language of the neighbour. In many kindergardens of the ‘three coutries corner’ , the children are playfully taught German or French.
It has been decided for the school year 2000/2001 to introduce French as the first foreign language right from the 1st class on, not like now from the 3rd class on. The German-French University in Saarbrücken
has been successfully inaugurated in the year 2000, which considerably improved the cooperation between German and French universities. And, for many years, pupils interested in languages have been able to choose the
German-French grammar school
as their secondary school. There, pupils are taught after the example of the French
"Collèges". The
University for Economy and Technology in
Saarbrücken offers the posibility to spend two semesters in the Lotharingian city of Metz. That makes sure that their degrees will be accepted in both coutries.
Student exchanges between German, French and Luxembourgian schools further
the participating youths’ awareness of Europe.
The Minister of Education of the Saarland mentioned just one problem in an interwiev with us: There are no school partnerships between Germany and Luxembourg. |
