Germany, France and
Luxemburg cooperate in the
military sector, too. We interviewed Hauptmann Willy Hein of the
Verteidigungsbezirks-Kommando (defense district command) 46 in Saarlouis and
Hauptfeldwebel Christian Hampe of the Fallschrimspringerpanzerabwehrbatallion (paratroop
anti-tank batallion) 262. According to them each partner benefits by joint trainings,
officer exchanges and missions. Their experiences concerning cooperation between German
and French units in different situations such as joint trainings or even during real
missions e.g. the KFOR - and SFOR - operations on the Balkan, are mainly
positive.
There, the Eurocorps, an international
military unit consisting of about 65,000 soldiers from Belgium, France, Germany, Spain and
the Netherlands operated very successfully.
Being founded at the beginning of the 1990s on
initiative of the German chancellor Dr. Helmut Kohl and the French president François
Mitterand, the EUROCORPS represents a well-equipped crisis reaction troop for missions
under the command of theOECD or the
UN.
Communication problems based on linguistic differences
between the soldiers are mainly solved, even if additional language lessons could be an
advantage. |
