  accüsed the return of martha splatterhead the accüsed (yes you need the umlaut you dicks) were a crossover band from seattle in the 80's/90's who played some blazingly fast, super gnarly high speed thrashy hardcore. pretty much all of their songs are about dead things, murder, sex, drugs, alienation, or having sex for money. yeah so they were like 16 or something when they started... yet even at as these impressionable youths were shredding the shit harder than anyone else around. "the return of martha splatterhead" is their first full length (the original "martha splatterhead" being an ep) and basically showcases their hardcore-gone-thrash approach. hell you can even hear some total discharge ripoff shit in there on "Buried alive." scope out "wrong side of the grave" too for the best line to say when you show up to work hungover as fuck and not wanting to talk to anyone. put this shit on and go skate or something.

  acursed tunneln i ljusets slut what ilike the most about bands like this swedish combo is that they play violent hardcore like they just don’t give a fuck. this album starts furious, remains furious and ends furious. it’s a blunt force energy that charges in the face of conformism. it's pissed off sentiment too powerful and too compelling, to ignore. which is to say, acursed sure give a fuck, but they give a fuck about their take on crusty hardcore; one in which the emphasis is clearly placed in speed and violence thru a static-y guitar.

there is no time nor place for silly breakdowns, macho posturing, or the herd mentality that seems to invade the current ushardcore scene. oh yeah, and there isn’t time for song titles either (none are printed in the album); tunneln i ljusets slut it’s all about its energy, the short riff, a steady solid and hard drum beat and raspy vocals screaming so in your face, fragments of spit are bound to land in your ears. it's not about the details either, even though one might have to pay close attention in order to truly appreciate the sheer might of the guitars, there is also a melodic undercurrent that sweeps the music in such hyper fashion.

the production is great because it offers a beefy chunk size super electric guitar tone. and then, for variation, just so that the pummeling comes with style, there is the spoken word opening, the spoken word interlude with the fading guitars in the background and the acoustic/spoken word song that almost closes the album. placed at the very end is the album’s longest song; a two part ‘epic’ that starts slow and morose only to finish off with two minutes of more speed, violence and energy. relentless.

  artimus pyle the civil dead - 12'' artimus pyle formed from the ashes of san francisco’s punk rock maniacs fuckface—taking their former band’s manic rage and hyperactive thrash down a darker, heavier path. slowed into heavily downtuned, sludgey dirges, artimus pyle's music spontaneously explodes and implodes into spastic fits of hardcore fury and percussive bombardment. recorded at polymorph studios by dan rathbun, civil dead is one very, very loud record and meant to be played that way.

  the autonomads no mans land co-release von ruinnation, mass prod. und punpkin; wir haben unsere natürlich von stivie himself. und dieser schreibt dazu: hence the cliché that most of the bands on ruin nation rec. are either way crust or anarcho punk or even metal... imight surprise with this young 5 piece from manchester (uk) and their very own brand of dub/ska and snotty anarcho punk sound. the autonomads would fit into a perfect row together with such acts like citizen fish, inner terrestrials and usual suspects... but categories and comparsions aside, this band stunned me totally with their fresh and amazingly well produced and well written musical output and their ideas and energy that overthrows every slight moment of stagnation... musically you get not too much and not too less of the dubpunk elements compared with melodic saxophone hints here and there and a full throttle punkrock doze spreading a very well thought and eco-based political message. packed into the backroom of a pub with this lot on the stage gets the dancefloor hot n' sweaty very quickly.

  boredom / river runs dry split here's a great split-lp featuring two hardcore/punk/crust bands, featuring 4 songs from austria's boredom and three songs from hungary's rivers run dry. both bands compliment each other well on this album and play a great style of music influenced by tragedy, his hero is gone, the holy mountain, or cursed. good job.

  cad tazky kov aus dem maximum rock'n'roll (märz 2012): an unbelievable solid, unbelievably impressive, unbelievably great release from slovakia's c.a.d., a three-piece who have remarkably have simmered off and on since 1994 through a variety of styles- from years of proficient yet somewhat predictable throttle thrash to charged, basic energetic eastern european hardcore to applying their musical proficiency lately to an increasingly metallic bent. "tazky kov" -which ithink literally translates to "heavy metal" is their first release in a two years, and is fan-fucking-tastic euro-crust. oay, you stopped listening. no, it's fan-fucking-tastic euro-crust. get out of the chair, stand up, grab the chair, now throw the chair against the wall and smash it, fantastic euro crust. perfectly balancing atmospheric, down tuned metallic gloom with the energetic galloping charge of eastern european hardcore with raspy, desperate vocals. the eleven tracks are metallic, but not overbearingly metal. it's complex, but not oppressively so. it's punk, but uses the strengths of pure strength of charging hardcore to energize the moody parts. indeed the time this band spent playing stop and start near-grindcore seemingly allow for those odd, quick and often surprising changes between structures, add that to the offbeat synergy eastern european hardcore has from the outset, and there's very little generic- the curse of euro-crust everywhere- about this record....given a full, deep pro recording and killer leads, this rocks. the time it takes to twist/ turn and get progressive just set up the total steamrolling hardcore then blast you into shouted chorus parts, one of eastern european hardcore's major, major strengths or descend into mean, double bass drum-driven breakdowns. the first two tracks of side two boils at a pace recalling the band's earliest blasting thrash, but the delivery of the vocals over the first track are consistent with the rest of the album that it sets up the haphazardly odd second track's frenetic pace and rawer screaming. lyrics are in slovak, so besides taking an easy guess of what " zombie masaker" ( which sounds cheesy but the way the song titles gurgles out the singer's throat during the song make it work) is about ihave no idea what this band is singing about, and the cover is just as enigmatic - a screaming, shock topped clay maquette clenching fists as it pulls and rings iron bell inside itself, which is done well enough to not be as ridiculous as it sounds. great, great great (my sleeping cat).

  chamber chamber noir ein munteres gekloppe ist das hier. sechs songs, heftigstes gemisch aus kruste und black metal, das die gesetzten herren hier abliefern. ruhigere und midtempo-parts machen das ganze sehr abwechslunsgreich. langweilig wird es hier jedenfalls nie. schick aufgemacht ist das ganze auch; doppel-lp mit bedruckten innersleeves, und einen download-zettel gibts's dazu, ohne dass man 'bitte' sagen muss (sm / wifagena / rinderherz).

  chicken's call 27 hc/punk, sehr melodisch & sehr politisch: they use melodies and tunes along with energetic crushing punk rock and create a very interesting and special brand of style. if you look for a good record of a good band that will hopefully stand many more of such great tours and records... you´ve found it.

  choose your poison crawl to nothing brutal slow doom blasts lead into head pounding thrashcore. picking up speed to blast into a high energy thrash/crossover hardcore. this combines a few crucial elements from doom, hardcore, and tharshcore. bang your head, smoke your weed, and worship nothing. these folks are shredding basements, venues, and the rest of the world with a hard crushing blend of music.

  contropotere nessuna speranza, nessuna paure 'nessuna speranza nessuna paura'’ is probably the last of the great, unforgettable masterpieces of the glorious decade of italian hardcore, and undoubtedly one of the most meaningful. originally released in 1989 on the legendary attack punk label, this record mixed the blind, furious rage of classic italian hardcore with more industrial/metal influences and dark, avant-garde atmospheres: almost like what neurosis would later become, and anticipating the sounds and visions of labels like neurot and southern lord. after years of over-the-top shows throughout europe, with singer lucias powerful and aggressive presence and a theatrical approach to the stage, alternated with frantic political activism in the extreme-left movements and the squat scene of their hometown, naples, the contropotere “collective” acquired a true cult status which shows no sign of disappearing, even after twenty years. digitally remastered from the original tape reels, after years of hopeless searches in dusty basements, this is one of the most crucial hardcore punk records of all time. includes an insert/poster.

  crucifix dehumanization crucifix was a hardcore band originally from berkeley, california.the band was started in 1980, fronted by sothira pheng, whose family had fled cambodia when the khmer rouge took power. crucifix combines the political spirit of conflict with the discharge school of music. along with discharge's 'hear nothing', antisect's 'in darkness' and amebix 'monolith'this is one of the most important anarcho releases of the early '80s. sothira's vocals are very powerful and unique for this style. comes like the original with poster cover. this is an alltime classic.

  discharge hear nothing, see nothing, say nothing considered by many to be one of the best, if not the best hardcore record of the 1980s. this record caught discharge at the peak of their powers, combining the anger, intensity and power of their early material with a high caliber of production and musicianship. pure anger and power, shocking and provocative graphics (before these were passe on punk record covers) combined with rampaging riffs and coarse vocals. faithfully reproduced as a gatefold lp (havoc).

  discharge why - 12'' an unrelenting blast of raw punk anger. this genre defining record turned up the intensity of hardcore punk several notches. a searing protest against the insanity of war and madness of politicians set to the most powerful and bombastic hardcore assault laid down to that date (havoc).

drone throne / toad split review aus dem colelctive zine: this has been on my pile for a while and for one reason or another ihaven’t got round to reviewing it till now. it’s a split between two bands from arizona. I was expecting it to be doom-y stoner stuff on both sides but its actually a side of relatively poppy but dark punk (toad) and one of sludgy and doomy stuff (drone throne). first up is the toad side: this is pretty catchy, roughed up punk rock stuff that calls to mind misfits or 45 grave. at times is veers towards a pretty sludgy sound (think eye hate god but not hard) but the overbearing feel is of the above mentioned bands and maybe even shards. aless complimentary comparison, but not far enough removed to be a cheap-shot, is wednesday 13th, the jumpy ‘rock’ sound and horror themed lyrics certainly hold something in common. that said, i’d never tell my friends if I enjoyed wed 13th but I’d have no shame about liking this. it's definitely fun, if a little vacuous for my liking (“i want to kill everyone, satan is good, satan is our pal”…aye, very good). actually, i’ll go out on a limb and say that ienjoyed this and might listen to it again sometime if the mood takes me. especially recommended to people into misfits/45 gand garagey rock bands with dumb lyrics. oh, and people who dig jackie onassis from glasgow. next, drone throne play four tracks of sludgey, doomy metal and is definitely the ‘serious’ side of the split. lots of chun, some fucking behemoth riffs. think along the lines of grief, sleep etc. this band are genuinely good and ican’t knock them. while i’ve not listened to this sort of thing in an age now, igot right into this side. they get it so right. if criticising, i’d say that some of the parts are a little predictable but whatever that detracts from the band is made up for with the genuinely sick parts (check out the da riff on ‘head trip highway’ – you’ll know the one imean). i’d recommend this side of the split to anyone even remotely into doomy or sludgy metal. Overall, not a bad split at all.

beide bands aus dublin/irland. easpa measa erinnern diverse male an so grossartige irische bands wie jobbykrust oder the dagda. divisions ruin gehen ebenfalls in diese richtung (auch mit frau/mann-wechselgesang), sind aber etwas 'düsterer'. gute platte! (diverse labels, wir haben unsere von contraszt)

  easpa measa / silence split easpa measa's three songs reek of wild crusty punk rock. there isn’t much in the way of variation here. instead, their songs are all about urgency with the vocalists taking turns rapidly, a speedy riff carrying the speed swiftly and a steady drumbeat that doesn’t fuck around. more interesting is the middle track, “morrigan song” where clodagh belches out her lyrics and eric seemingly barking while guitarist damo harmonizes colors into an otherwise monochromatic recording. easpa measa is on hiatus at the time due to several band members being out and about the world.

silence on the other hand are already broken up and instead of holding dublin as their birthplace come from lublin, poland. their half is super tight. three tracks of no holds barred, never fucking around d-beat crustcore. the first song “technology’s blind rush” starts off slow, but once it charges up, it rolls down like a truck with no brakes down the fucking everest. more interesting, complicated and brainy is “loneliness on the second floor”, where inward distortion crashes against the song’s lack of steadiness. there is really not much of d-beat in this song, just noisy angularity and an awesome sense that it is all possible for silence. post d-beat, maybe? their last song “faces of slaves” is more straight forward, with gorgeous guitar arrangements nicely hidden under a blanket of ashes and the brutal raw roar of the vocalist. afucking shame this band is gone (sadness of noise / acclaim). review geklaut beim deaf sparrow.

  the equalities on the street killer uk82-inspired, spiky-haired pogo madness from japan. unlike a lot of bands from north america who claim to be inspired by the uk82 sound, the equalities have a very anthemic take on the sound... think more along the lines of angelic upstarts or cock sparrer than gbh or exploited (loud punk)

  expendable youth the exposing of the immortal person out now on distro-y following after their split 7" with cut the reins (ireland) comes the debut lpfrom chicago's expendable youth. 7 tracks of melodic crust/dark hardcore, bringing in their mix of strong and thoughtful lyrics charged over a multi-layered combining hardcore / crust / metal to create style of melodic crust with metallic sounds and raw energy running throughout. highly influenced by ekkia and remains of the day. full blasting anarcho melodic crust played with passion. on colored vinyl (transparent beer w/black splatter).

  everything falls apart relief - 12'' erster longplayer nach zwei eps, und soviel 80s waren schon lange nicht mehr auf meinem plattenspieler. 1a mix aus schnellem hardcorepunk und älterem, melodischerem zeugs wie hüsker dü und wipers. oder wie das maximum rock'n'roll dazu schreibt: playing traditional hardcore, while maintaining their own sound, this band stands out from the crop of revival groups that have emerged in the last few years. great!"

  eye for an eye cisza endlich gibt es diese klasse scheibe auf vinyl. old school anarcho-hc im stil von post regiment. die band wurde bereits 1997 gegründet, ging aber leider etwas unter. 12 songs voller wut und hass und dazu dieses brett an musik. die lpkommt im farbigen vinyl, aufklappbares beiblatt mit fotos undÜübersetzungen der texte (campary / pasazer).

  family man s/t zweite lp der berliner, und hier gibt's mal wieder qualität! 1a rockender hardcore-punk (haben sich nicht umsonst nach 'nem black-flag-song benannt); keine überflüssigen schnörkel und - wichtig! - keine metal-gitarren, dafür haben die leute aus der band ihre poison-idea-hausaufgaben ordentlich erledigt, so gehört sich das! lp kommt im schicken silberfolien-cover (behind the scenes).

  final threnody s/t wie immer ist meister stivie von ruin nation ein zuverläsiger lieferant für beschreibungen: a self released 5 song effort by this young oslo band mixing more gloomy and heavy musical elements, touching so called "neo-crust" slightly but adding more harmonic melodies also in a accoustic way. this is quite good and i´m quite surprised i haven´t heard of them before. comes in a gatefold sleeve with lyrics and all in all on a not so sunny scale but you can imagine.

  finisterre bitter songs nachpressung: two years after their great split lp with alpinist, here is the first own album by finisterre from cologne / germany. “bitter songs” is a record full of melancholic songs about the bitterness of life. expect dark, but melodic hardcore sorrounded by a heavy d-beat drumming and fronted by a brutal female voice. finisterre managed to create their own interpretation of modern crust by combining epic elements with sweet melodies and calm and contemplative parts turn into moments of anger and despair. the lyrics deal with current poltical issues like the ec-immigration policy and increase of surveillance in public and private spheres as well as they deal with more personal-politcal topics about heteronomy, sexism and death. the lpcomes with a huge 20-page booklets with all lyrics and explanations to the songs (contraszt / halo of flies / rinderherz)

diese split-12“ teilen sich zwei oldschool-hc-bands aus palermo, sizilien. zum einen f.u.g., die sich wirklich eins zu eins anhören wie die kalifornischen hardcore-bands der frühen achtziger: schnelle, kurze songs, angepisst, unfertig, lakonisch. verblüffend, wie genau den ton treffen und damit auch einen nerv der zeit – klingt unwiderstehlich. ein singalong wie your music is shit ist fantastisch, genau wie ihre version des adolescents-songs word attack. die soviet nuns auf der anderen seite sind eine spur rauher, schneller, aggressiver, haben aber auch die lustigeren texte. die zeichnung auf dem cover illustriert übrigens einen song von f.u.g.: priests attack, samt weihwasserkanone im anschlag. so was kann die nonnen naturgemäss nicht schrecken, ihre vision heißt: elvis zombies attack, beides der pure horror.

  germ attack cruxshadow vom label dazu: oh man, they definetly outdid themselves on this lp here. jump into a time warp and fall back into uk, 1982, for real. if you're a fan of anything early riot city (ultraviolence, gbh, broken bones, partisans) you'll fucking shit yourself over this lp. it sounds like it was recorded where ever the ultra violence - crime for revenge 7" was recorded, so fucking awesome. this band is consistantly great, but this lp is definetly their best record by far (loud punk).

  massmord / shades of grey splitb bei massmord war spätestens seit ihrer „unleashed“-lp klar, dass sie der helle wahnsinn sind, mit dieser split-lp legen sie sogar noch mal eine schippe obendrauf: fantastischer angecrusteter hardcore-punk, der irgendwo zwischen wolfbrigade, to what end? und kylesa pendelt, manchmal etwas düster, schleppend und d-beatig, dann wieder brutal schnell, voranpeitschend und wütend, hier geht innerhalb kürzester zeit alles und das klingt dabei auch noch wunderbar harmonisch und durchdacht. die flipside mit shades of grey passt da bestens dazu. nicht nur inhatlich haben beide bands einiges zu sagen, auch musikalisch passt das hier wie die faust auf`s auge. downtuned hardcore, der manchmal ein bisschen in richtung d-beat schielt, aber nie so richtig in die ecke passen will. eigenständig, wild, wütend, manchmal sogar etwas metallisch, aber immer mit einem feinen gespür für den perfekten songs (profane existence).

no rest todos os disfarces aus dem ox: seit 1989 ist diese düstere anarchopunk-band unterwegs. der output der brasilianer hielt sich mit bislang drei alben in einem sehr überschaubaren rahmen. vielleicht lag es an den besetzungswechseln über all die jahre? klasse statt masse. das kann man zumindest von "todos os disfarces" behaupten. melancholische momente paaren sich mit screamo-attacken., aggressive harmonien mit klaren politischen aussagen und interessanten arrangements. alles andere als berechenbar. no rest heben sich angenehm von der eintönigen anarcho-szene ab. fans von bands wie from ashes rise, remains of the day oder tragedy, sowie leute mit einem faible für das so genannte d-beat-genre werden ihre freude mit no rest haben, auch wenn deren songs nicht ganz so komplex sind.

  romeo must die s/t one sided lp by this band from south of poland, from a small city where a priest, a cop and a politician have the last say. the other side of the vinyl is silkscreened - amazing work it must be said. the group delivers 6 songs (nearly 20 minutes) that are not far from the artimus pyle, hhig or catharsis kind of style, technically very well played, passionate and downtuned crust with low screaming vocals and lots of tempo variations. heavy production and poetic lyrics make it one hell of a powerful record (sadness of noise).

In total - two guitars, two screamers, one bass and one drums. they call it gitwa punk and if you like siekiera (a polish old punk 'legend') you know what they mean - fast and furious crusty powerviolence, aggressive and in your face. on the other side of the split you find tunguska - irish/polish hybride with heavy and dark monumental neocrust mayhem. totally devastating and powerful wall of sound in the vein of silence, far, the dagda etc. (sadness of noise).

  v/a poslouchate jizni cechy 3 dritter teil der sampler-reihe mit punkbands aus böhnmen, diesmal mit behind the cemetery wall, stand up-speak up!, byt, hiroshima nightmare, liver garnish, katarakta, ünfarkt, resort, rotten brats, kzo, flaska visocini. dazu noch ein geklautes review:
puh, das is mal ein sampler. "listen to south bohemia" wird der titel übersetzt. also sind das wohl allesamt bands aus südböhmen/tschechien. da unten scheints echt ne rege szene zu geben, wenn das hier schon der dritte teil ist...auschliesslich bands, von denen ich noch nie zuvor gehört habe. macht aber nix. das Ganze is ne zusammenarbeit verschiedener labels (und zwar so einiger, bin grad zu faul zum zählen), jede band darf ein paar titel zum besten geben und alle haben eins gemeinsam: hass. grossartig. allesamt brettern sie in teils abartiger geschwindigkeit ihre vertonte wut runter, kaum ein lied kommt über 2 minuten. über die grösstenteils tschechischen texte muss ich hier wohl kein wort verlieren, aber bei titeln wie "fuck off nazi" (behind the cemetery wall), "george bush jr." (stand up - speak up) oder "hitlerjugend" (flaska visocini) ist die richtung vermutlich ganz gut vorgegeben. stilistisch ist das feld auch gut abgesteckt: hardcore-punk, ein paar ausflüge gen crust (katarakta) oder grind (resort). Bei behind the cemetery wall und rotten brats wirds sogar ziemlich metallisch. ausfälle habe ich keine zu vermelden, am ehesten zugesagt haben mir stand up speak uUp, byt und ünfarkt, aber ich denke da kann sich jeder seine eigenen rosinen rauspicken. wer auf schwere hardcorepunk-geschütze steht und auch mal etwas über den tellerrand schauen will oder sich speziell für die tschechische punkszene interessiert, sollte hier zugreifen. ordentlich material ist auf dieser 12-inch enthalten, dazu gibts noch zu jeder band ne kleine info, ausserdem noch nen kleinen überblick über die "szene" in south bohemia...da scheint einiges zu gehen.

  vivisektio 1984 verbinden anarchosound mit klassischem finnischen hardcore der früh 80er. die band existierte von 1983-86, aber waren damals eher unbekannt und haben jetzt zum ersten Mal ihre alten Songs richtig geil aufgenommen. die Aufnahmen blasen echt alles weg und vielleicht das beste im alten finnen-hc-stil seit mitte der 80er. vivisektio stammen ursprünglich aus dem dorf Äkäslompolo, knapp 200 kilometer nördlich vom polarkreis...   willfull neglect both 12'' on a lp willfull neglect veröffentlichten in den frühen tagen des ami-hardcores zwei 12''s. die erste 12'' erschien 1982 und die 'justice for no one' 1983. und auf dieser lp hier findet man diese verschollen schätze drauf. willfull neglect spielen wilden, ungestümen hardcore, wie er in jenen tagen in den usa gerade geboren wurde. schnell und ungebremst werden die kurzen songs rausgedonnert. der sänger ist absolut räudig und hat eine exzellente stimme für diesen sound. bands wie urban waste, verbal abuse und die ganz frühen social unrest klangen ähnlich. es wird aber nicht nur geschwindigkeit gebolzt, sondern man bekommt auch etwas melodischere midtempo-songs zu hören. willfull neglect spielen richtig richtig geilen, furiosen 80er-jahre ami-hardcore (havoc / höhnie).

  zounds the curse of zounds - discografie doppel-lp

zounds were part of england’s late-’70s/early-’80s anarcho-punk scene; friends of crass, they released their debut epon the latter’s label crass records. though they released a number of eps and singles, they only managed to put out one full-length album, the curse of zounds, before disbanding in 1982. this collection includes everything the band ever recorded, not only the album but all the ep tracks and singles as well. what becomes immediately apparent is zounds’ musicality; while they were just as musically and politically uncompromising as crass, et al., they had a lot more sonic strings to their bow than your average first-generation anarcho-punk outfit. now, after a couple of represses and reissues, this new double lp version is for the first time properly remastered by steve lake at ideal studios in 2007 and includes all lyrics! there are 3 bonus tracks on this version in form of the 2 live recordings of “fear” and “wolves” (a never recorded song to this day previously released on the ultra rare “la vache qui rit” single) and the 2002 version of “alone” from the mc libel ep (ruin nation / anti society).
