| discharge | fight back | this is probably the best d-beat seven inch ever or at least one of the top three. it is so much faster than the first record, and every song on here except "religion instigates" has a claim to being the best discharge song. with briefer lyrics, increased intensity, and the most classic of riffs, this is where their sound becomes solidified as distinctly theirs. "fight back" and "war's no fairytale" are compelling rants against war and the system, and then "always restrictions" anti-thatcher verses explode into the so-stupid-it's-brilliant chorus "smash to fuck the fucking system". just when you think it can't get any better, "you take part in creating the system" and its accusations of collaboration and apathy seal the record as a feat of genius never to be repeated. "religion instigates" can't quite live up to the pace of the previous four songs, and i've never quite grasped what the line "religion's just as crass" means- as crass as *what?* oh well. agood song that i will never tire of hearing, that fits in as a nice bookend to one of the great achievements of hardcore (havoc). |

| krimtänk / subalert | split | sag krimtänk live med just sub alert tidigare i år och dom bjöd på en mycket underhållande spelning och man kunde nästan ta på spelglädjen i rummet, dessutom däckade basisten under pågående spelning, hur kan man inte se tillbaka på det med ett leende på läpparna!? krimtänk bidrar med 6 låtar och det går i ett rasande tempo. det är inte direkt tajt eller välspelat men krimtänk utstrålar en energi (ni vet jag jag pratar om, den energin) som man inte är direkt bortskämd med idag. snabbt, kaotiskt, intensivt, argt och inget krångel utan bara det man vill ha, snabb hardcore med hjärtat på rätta stället. det låter jävligt 80-tal och ärligt, inga attityder och inget flash. jag gillar’t, var skriver jag på? sub alert bjuder på 3 låtar, var av jag gillar ’ett svin i kostym’ allra mest, det är även deras första låt på svenska. jag har inte varit helt kompis med pers sång, men när det vankas vrål på modersmålet faller det på plats för mig, mycket bra. de två andra låtarna har bra ös och sväng, jag tycker helt klart att detta är deras starkaste material hittills, men jag gillar när det är på svenska så jag tror att jag hade tyckt det låtarna hade varit ännu roligare med en västgötsk framtoning. materialet är varierat och hämtar influenser från både här och där, hardcore helt enkelt. ’ett svin i kostym’ är bästa låten och om jag hade varit diktator hade sub alert från och med nu vrålat på svenska, men tills jag blir det får jag ju konsumera vad som bjuds. |

| masakari | eden compromised | after one listen to eden compromised, it’s not surprising to find that masakari take their name from a battle-axe used in ancient japan. the four songs that make up this debut ep are as destructive as a blow to the skull with such a weapon. the war withinis a thundering, metallic slab of meaty riffs and pummeling, chaotic drums. i hear a lot of d-beat and crust influence in this song, and the others as well. obviously masakari take heaps of influence from giants of the genre his hero is gone. but masakari are not a knock off; there is some nice mid-tempo open-chord riffing going on too, which is quite cool. forever cursedtakes a slightly more hardcore approach with its use of gang vocals and a breakdown. vanquishand egoism in harvest round out the epand are equally as heavy - the production of bill korecky suits the band well. the former opens with ultra heavy slow riffs, the latter features impeccable drumming on display (halo of flies). neuauflage. |
