Jake Lloyd Interviews

CBS This Morning with Jake Lloyd

Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace is off to a fast start with movie goers. And making an equally fast career move is 10-year-old actor Jake Lloyd, who plays the young Anakin Skywalker.

What's the best thing about being an actor?

Going all over the place, almost getting to the point where you could sell your sister... That actually happened in Tanisia. I was gonna take him up on the offer, but my mom wouldn't let me.

Your character grows up to be the Darth Vader that we have all known...

... and loved...

... and loved for all these years. Can you do the older Darth Vader?

koooooooooooooooo-paaaaaaaaaaaaah
koooooooooooooooo-paaaaaaaaaaaaah
koooooooooooooooo-paaaaaaaaaaaaah
koooooooooooooooo-paaaaaaaaaaaaah
That all translated into "Luke, I am your father."

*Laughs* That was pretty good! Now did your friends when you were making the movie say "It's all secret and we can't talk about it... tell me what's going on."

They were like "Jake would you please tell me the plot?" "No." "Please?" "No." "Please?" "No." "Please?" "No." Okay, you wanna know the plot?" And then I'll tell them some science fiction book plot. "That doesn't sounds much like StarWars."

*Laughs* Now, for people my age, and I'm about 4 or 5 years older than you, Star Wars was one of my favorite movies. What are some of your favorite movies?

Ferris Bueler's Day Off, 007 GoldenEye, I really like Harvey... That's a different kind of movie than both of those!

Yeah it is, with Jimmy Stewart.

Yeah, he's a really cool guy.

Yeah. Of all the actors out there who are cool to you, Mel Gibson...

Harrison Ford, Mel Gibson, Danny Glover. I really have to say Sinbad is really cool.

Okay.

Jimmy Stewart...

Well, just between you and me, those are all guys. Do you like any of the, the lady actresses out there? Do you think they're cute?

I don't think most of them are cute.

Naw, you don't think Julia Roberts is cute?

I have no comment. *chuckles*

Okay. How bout somebody who's on like Party of Five or something...

I don't watch Party of Five. I don't like those kind of shows.

Melrose Place, you don't like that stuff?

No.

Can I tell you something?

What? (frustrated)

I can see your future. You will like those sometime. Do you know that?

Yes, I do. My dad loves 'em.

Yeah, I'll bet he does! *laughs* Hey, Jake; you're an all right guy. Thanks a lot.

No problem. *evil laugh*

Jake's advice for young wannabe actors:
You have to really, really, really, really want it. If you talk about it for weeks and months and probably you have the drive to get it done. Oh yeah, get a good agent too, by the way.

Was sind deine Lieblingsfilme?

Ferris Bueler's Day Off, 007 Golden Eye, Ich mag wirklich Harvey...

Harisson Ford, Mel Gibson, Danny Glover.

Nein

Kann ich dir etwas erzählen?

Was! (frustriert)

Kein Problem (lacht schlimm)

MOVIESTAR: Was kaufst du dir für deine Gage?

MOVIESTAR: Was sagen deine Freunde zu deinem Erfolg?

Jake Lloyd: Ich habe ihn mittlerweilse sogar schon viermal gespielt.

Is this the new face of evil?

By Andy Gray photography by Richard Reinsdorf

At 8, actor Jake Lloyd landed the role of his life. Considering his tender age, it may appear as if we're jumping to conclusions here, but as he breaths life into the young Darth Vader in Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace, chances are his performance will instantly become the stuff of legends. A few weeks before the much-awaited release of the fourth Star Wars installation, Jake is incredibly poised. Like the boy he portrays in Lucas 'fantastic world, Jake seems wise beyond his years. But even a 10-year-old "acting veteran's" mature shell breaks when faced with his own action figure.

City AZ: "Have you seen the original Star Wars movies?"

Jake Lloyd: "Yes."

CAZ: "Are you a big fan?"

JL: "Ohhh, yeah!"

CAZ: "What's your favorite character?"

JL: "I don't know. Darth Vader! Probably Han Solo."

CAZ: "Do you have an idea how big this movie is?"

JL: "Yeah, it's definitely the most anticipated movie of all  time. Everybody's been waiting for it."

CAZ: "Did that make it more difficult to film the movie, with everyone having such high expectations?"

JL: "No. On every film there are high expectations."

CAZ: "I know you did Jingle All the Way?"

JL: "Yeah, that one had pretty high expectations. With Arnold [Schwarzenegger], and the late Phil Hartman."

CAZ: "Did you have a good time while shooting Star Wars?"

JL: "Oh, yeah!"

CAZ: "Did you get tired at all, was there a moment when you wanted to give up?"

JL: "No. Because , you have to go. You have to keep doing it. You can't go half way through the film and say 'Oh, I give up.' You have to go all the way with it.

CAZ: "Are you and the rest of the cast pretty good friends?"

JL: "Yeah, like Ahmed Best, we're really good friends. And George [Lucas, director], Rick [McCallum, producer], Liam [Neeson], Ewan [McGregor] - everyone."

CAZ: "What was your favorite part about doing the film?"

JL: "Um, all of it! I really liked doing the film, it's probably one of the best experiences I've had."

CAZ: "What do your friends think about you playing Anakin Skywalker?"

JL: "Well, they think it's really cool. I just moved into a new school, so everyone doesn't know me that well. But today, they finally, like, caught on, and I've been giving out my autograph a lot. Which I never mind giving."

CAZ: "Have you had a chance to see the final version of the movie yet?"

JL: "No, I haven't, I'm going up to George's house this weekend, and see it in one of his private theaters. They can, like, move wood panels in the ceiling, and make it adjust to the sound, so it's like an echo, or something like that. It's really cool. I always wanted to watch, like, Terminator, or something, in there."

CAZ: "What is your favorite movie right now?"

JL: "Um, I really like Waterboy. That's a pretty funny movie. Oh, and October Sky, that was just a great film, amazing! You have to see it. And The Matrix, even though I haven't been able to see it yet. (The last sentence he says loud enough, making sure his mother can hear him.) Because she [mom] hasn't seen it yet, and it's an "R" film. I respect her for that. (Because you wouldn't want your son to go walking into a film where someone's head gets blown off. She's just worried about language and all that scary stuff.) It sounds good from what I hear. I've heard half the story, and I meet the producers for it, they're really nice.

CAZ: "Do you get to meet a lot of people in Hollywood?"

JL: "Yeah, I actually went in to meet the heads of Disney, and Warner Brothers. The guys there are really cool."

CAZ: "What do you plan on doing after this movie? Are you going to continue acting, or focus on school?"

JL: "Yeah, I'm going to keep acting. Every kid loves school. (Again, he raises his voice to ensure mom's attention . . . ) I'm sorry, I had to say that. I love acting, and not having to go to school is just one of those good things about it, too. Acting itself is the best, and then going out to school is one of those . . . I only have to do three hours of school on the set, and so it's much nicer. And I learn more, because it's one-on-one. Instead of, like, 30 kids in a class. You learn more in three hours than you do in six hours."

CAZ: "What do you have planned for May 19th, when everyone is waiting in line to see your movie?"

JL: "Rick [McCallum] and I were joking around, he said 'After the premier, do you want to go around and look at the lines?' And I'm like, you know, I'm going to be hiding on the 19th. Because, it will get pretty hectic, but it will be kind a fun. I love the popularity. It's really nice."

CAZ: "What do you like to do on your free time?"

JL: "Play with Star Wars toys, play games, chase my dog around the house. He usually sleeps so I don't usually get to do that."

CAZ: "Are you excited to see all the toys that will be coming out?"

JL: "Ooh, we actually got a big box full of Star Wars toys ".

CAZ: "So you get all the free toys you want?"

JL: "Oh, yeah! I got the battle droids, I got Wattoo, I got a double-sided lightsaber, Darth Maul, you know, Padme, me, Jar Jar . . ."

CAZ: " What was it like to see an action figure of yourself?"

JL: "Woah, man. It's so cool! As soon as we got it, as soon as I saw it, I was like, 'Okay, this is going next to my other action figures,' you know. This is definitely going in there with my other Star Wars memorabilia."

CAZ: "Does it look just like you?"

JL: "Yeah, it's actually scary, it does. It looks too much like me! Oh, and they have these new COMMtech things, where you put it under [the figure], and it will play a line from the film. And it will okay up to 12 different lines, or six, or something. It's really cool."

CAZ: "Have you ever been to Arizona?"

JL: "Oh, yeah. My grandmother lives out there. It's probably one of my favorite places to go. We stay at the Arizona Biltmore.

Jake Lloyd: "Ja"

CAZ: "Bist du ein großer Fan?"

JL: "ohh, ja!"

CAZ: "Was ist deine Lieblingsfigur?"

JL: "Ich weis nicht! Darth Vader! Wahrscheinlich Han Solo."

CAZ: "Ich weiß, du meinst Jingle all the Way (Versprochen ist Versprochen)?"

CAZ: "Was denken deine Freunde darüber, dass du Anakin Skywalker spielst?"

CAZ: "Was willst du nach diesem Film (StarWars) machen?

CAZ: "Was machst u am liebsten in deiner Freizeit?"

CAZ: "So, kriegst du alles Spielzeug was du willst umsonst?"

JL: "Boah man.

CAZ: "Warst du schon jemals in Arizona?"

JL: "Oh ja. Meine Großmutter lebt dort. Dahin gehe ich wahrscheinlich am liebsten. Wir "wohnen" dann am Arizona Biltmore."

Jake Lloyd
Already a Hollywood Veteran at Ten, Jake Lloyd Talks About Making Movies and Other Cool Stuff

Jake Lloyd's first professional acting job was a 1995 commercial for Ford Windstar. Now with his pivotal and iconic role as young slave boy Annakin Skywalker in Star Wars Episode 1: The Phantom Menace, it is the 10-year-old Colorado native who is in the driver's seat. As the boy who would be Darth Vader, he is now a part of movie history, but the down-to-earth Lloyd, a veteran of television (E.R.) and independent films (such as Unhook the Stars and the upcoming Madison), wears it well.

Barnes & Noble.com: When did you first get the acting bug?

Jake Lloyd: Watching Arnold Schwarzenegger in Terminator 2.

B&N.com: That's an R-rated movie! How old were you?

JL: I was about two years old. I said I was going to be in a movie with Arnold.

B&N.com: And you were; Jingle all the Way. Sometimes meeting a hero is a letdown. What was it like to meet Arnold and work with him?

JL: It was awesome. Just cool. He is the nicest guy; just really funny and fun to hang out with. I just thought it was great to be around him.

B&N.com: So how did Phantom Menace come about?

JL: Luck.

B&N.com: Were you familiar with the Star Wars movies? Who was your favorite character?

JL: Darth Vader. He's a good guy, too. He brought balance to the Force.

B&N.com: What was the audition process like?

JL: I went in once every six months for two years. Then it came down between me and two other kids, one of which I'm really good friends with now. We did the "Are you an angel?" scene and Annakin's goodbye to his mother.

B&N.com: How did you find out you got the part?

JL: The casting director called us. I had called over to my agent's office after an audition. He told me I got hired.

B&N.com: What was your reaction?

JL: I started crying. It was the coolest thing.

B&N.com: What was the most fun about making the movie? Tell me about the pod race scene.

JL: I think it was all really cool. For the pod race, they sit you in a pod and you get shaken a lot. It's pretty much like an amusement park ride.

B&N.com: How did you prepare for this role?

JL: I am my sister's slave pretty much, so that helped. (imitating her) "Jake, go do this, Jake, go do that."

B&N.com: I caught you on the MTV Movie Awards on Samuel L. Jackson's shoulders. Did you get to meet any celebrities backstage?

JL: I talked with Adam Sandler. I got to meet Will Smith and Ben Affleck. I also got to meet (singer) Robbie Williams.

B&N.com: Was making The Phantom Menace everything you thought it would be? What is the one memory you think you'll want to tell your own children someday?

JL: It was better than I thought it would be. But by the time I have children, I won't remember any of this.

B&N.com: Finally, who is the better actor: Arnold or Jar Jar Binks?

JL: (Laughs) They both have their stuff.

AskLucasfilm: R2-BMW says: Rick, were you ready (do you think) for the challenges posed by a new generation of "StarWars" episode(s)?

RickMcCallum: No! I've learned to adapt. All you do is the best you can, and hope everyone else likes it.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-Super says: Rick, did the actors (McGregor, Neeson, et al) have any difficulty adjusting to the green screen, acting with to-be-added-in CGI characters?

RickMcCallum: At first, for the first couple days they did. But what we like to do is have the artwork on the set at all times, so they always know the backgrounds that will be behind them, and we do very sophisticated animatics, which allow them to see what the scene is like both before and after the one they are doing. So we do all we can to help them, and after a couple of days, they all got used to it, and enjoyed the experience, I think, because they got to develop new skills that they all know will be used in the future.

AskLucasfilm: R2-Witwer says: Rick, many of us wonder about the projects Lucasfilm will take on after Star Wars. We've heard about "Indy 4." Is there anything you can tell us in terms of what kinds of movies Lucasfilm is interested in producing in the future?

RickMcCallum: I think that as far as a director and writer, George is looking at low- budget, experimental films. But with George, you never know.

AskLucasfilm: R2-ORNOTR2 says: Rick, was weather a major factor is this production?

RickMcCallum: The bulk of the film was shot on stage, although we did shoot on location in Tunisia and Italy. The Tunisian experience was incredible. Personally, I prefer working on location, because you never know what is going happen. The temperatures were between 130-138 degrees Fahrenheit every day, and it was very difficult for the cast, with elaborate costumes on, and also for the extras, who wore masks. On the second day, we got hit by a freak tornado, which destroyed all of our sets except one. Luckily, the Tunisian Army was doing maneuvers nearby, and they came and helped rebuild the base camp and our sets, so we never lost a day in our schedule. But it was very intense!

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-lukeskywalker48 says: What is your favorite sci-fi movie besides the "Star Wars" trilogy?

RickMcCallum: "2001: A Space Odyssey" I love. I am still amazed by it every time I see it.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-AdmiralNuss18009 says: If "The Phantom Menace" is set before "A New Hope," why is there such advanced technology in it that we don't really see in the first three movies? I know that there were film making constraints at the time of the original trilogy, but wouldn't the logical procession be from simple to complex?

RickMcCallum: It's a very good question you ask. The reason is that "The Phantom Menace" takes place in two new worlds we have never seen in the "Star Wars" universe, one the peaceful and civilized Naboo, and the other on the very sophisticated planet Coruscant. I think when you see all six films together, they will appear very seamless. Remember, too, that this all takes place before the Empire destroys everything.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-Dash says: Rick, what was the most tedious part of "The Phantom Menace"? Was it the pod race?

RickMcCallum: The pod race and the in-battle were the most difficult sequences to achieve. They are both completely CG, and they represent about 18 minutes of the film. They were very challenging to achieve, at times tedious, because they took so long - almost two and a half years - to complete. But in the end, both George and I are very happy with the results.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-lukeskywalker48 says: Rick, How did you manage to get the job as producer of the "Special Editions" and of "The Phantom Menace"? Was it your experience on the "Young Indiana Jones" series?

RickMcCallum: I've been working with George for ten years, and I did get along well with him on the "Radioland" movies and the "Young Indy" series. So it was just a natural thing for him, I guess, to let me be a part of the Star Wars saga. It's always an honor and a great pleasure working with him, plus a lot of fun.

AskLucasfilm: R2-VW says: Was technology (ours, Not StarWars) a help or a hindrance in producing "The Phantom Menace"?

RickMcCallum: Without our technology, we could never have made the film. It's really only during the last two or three years where everything has converged to a point where both the software, which is incredibly sophisticated, and the hardware, very powerful now to render the images we want, have come together. And it's at last becoming affordable and cost-efficient.

AskLucasfilm: Darth-Ludicris says: Rick, my children, Ryan (5) and Destiney (7) would like me to ask you how you are doing now that the film is finished?

RickMcCallum: Well, I wish I could say I get a rest, but we are actually starting to prepare for "Episode II" this week, because we start shooting it in June 2000. We have a LOT of work ahead of us to make that date. (Say "Hi" to the kids for me!)

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-RobHuston says: Rick: When you know that a certain character is going to end up a computer animation instead of a real living actor, how does that influence casting decisions?

RickMcCallum: Jedi-Rob, one of the things we do is always cast the voice of the actor first. We also make sure he is available to us for the set during all the scenes. The way we do it is this: we will have the actor who is doing the voice rehearse on the set with the actors, then we actually shoot the scene, once George has blocked out the
moves for the actors, and we will then shoot a reference plate for the animators. We will do this several times until the actors feel comfortable with where the character is, and where their eyelines need to be, then once all are comfortable with the scene, we pull the voice actor out, and then shoot the scene without him, although he is giving his lines off-camera. It sounds weird, and guess what? It is.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-Sazerac says: Do you feel a sense of responsibility being a part of something so culturally significant?

RickMcCallum: At first I did feel responsibility, but then there was so much work to do,
I haven't had much time to think about that lately. I had purchased some land in Bulgaria, just in case anything happens. It's one place I don't think the film will be released in! *grin* I hear they have cheap good red wine.

StarWars: Jake Lloyd has just joined us.
StarWars: .
StarWars: Jake, thank you for being with us tonight

JakeLloyd: Cool! No problem! Thanks for inviting me!

AskLucasfilm: Darth-Chicken says: Rick and Jake, did either of you get to take any mementos from the set? If so, what?

JakeLloyd: I got to keep my Jedi Knight costume. I don't think I will get to wear it much, though - I've pretty much grown out of it!

RickMcCallum: Who gave you permission, Jake, to keep that costume?

JakeLloyd: You did!

RickMcCallum: I did? Hey, I want it back! *grin* I didn't keep anything, but I wanted to.

JakeLloyd: I wanted to keep everything, from the props to the actors!

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-DarkKnight1138 says: Jake, what was the highlight of your Star Wars experience?

RickMcCallum: Working with me! LOL

JakeLloyd: My favorite part was working with such talented actors, and such nice guys....and Rick!

AskLucasfilm: Viceroy-Mufasa says: Were there any "easter eggs" in the movie? (Like SW posters in the background, or references to other Lucas stuff?)

RickMcCallum: No, but if you see the film, over and over again, there are many hidden delights in the Senate Rotunda.

JakeLloyd: I know where one is!

RickMcCallum: Don't say anything, Jake! *grin*

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-Saxman717 says: Hi Jake! As you went about acting the part of young Anakin Skywalker, was your performance affected at all by knowing who Anakin would later become?

JakeLloyd: No, because for me, Darth Vader has always been a good guy. He had so many chances to kill Luke Skywalker, and never did. And he has a good heart, because he saved Luke, and killed the emperor, which was enough redemption right there.

AskLucasfilm: Darth-ILoveNatPortman says: What was the Tunisian desert like?

JakeLloyd: It was really fun! But hot, you know? A really good experience to have, but not to relive. It was nice to have the experience, though.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-MasterGorsh says: Mr. McCallum, what was the most nostalgic and/or emotional scene to film, both for returning cast members like Anthony Daniel's, and new ones like Jake and Natalie?

RickMcCallum: Well, I think the most emotional scene is when Anakin leaves his mother, and I think the most emotional scene for Anthony and Kenny Baker was just being back together after 16 years.
RickMcCallum: I have to run now for a flight...I will see you all soon!

JakeLloyd: Bye, Rick!

RickMcCallum: Bye everyone! Thanks for the great questions! And I will see you all on Monday!

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-Sazerac says: Jake, if you could meet anyone in the world who would it be?

JakeLloyd: I would really like to meet Will Smith, and I would like to see Harrison Ford again. I got to see Harrison at one of the press screenings, but would like to chat more with him. I have always wanted to meet Will Smith for a while, and he sounds like a nice guy. I admire his work in films he has done - I saw him in "Independence Day." I
would also like to meet Mark Hamill, too.

AskLucasfilm: R2-VW says: How intense was it working with all those OLDER actors?

JakeLloyd: It wasn't very intense, just a very good experience. I learned a lot, and respected them all for being so professional, and being very good actors. The experience was a lot of fun, and that is what I am in the business for.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-THX1138 says: What practical jokes/pranks did you get to play on the set?

JakeLloyd: I froze Rick's cigarette case. I don't like it when people smoke, because it's not good for them, so I figured that would stop him. They have these large machines on the set for cooling, and I used one to freeze it.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-ambassador7 says: Jake, how do you like being an action figure and do you collect them?

JakeLloyd: I do like being an action figure, it's really fun. I don't really collect them, but I think they're really cool.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-THX1138 says: What was the first scene you filmed for "The Phantom Menace"? Were you nervous?

JakeLloyd: The first scene I filmed was where Jar Jar and I are sitting in the lounge room. I was nervous, but then everyone is on the first scene. But I got over it quickly, and within two minutes, it was gone.

AskLucasfilm: Darth-Trunks12 says: Jake, was it hard for you to make a movie of this status at such a young age? And how do you feel about making history at only 9 [almost 10]?

JakeLloyd: It wasn't very hard. It's just a regular film, you know? It's just a film, where I went in to act and have fun.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-snydermatt says: Hi, Jake! Do you want to pursue acting as a career? If so, you're off to a good start! BTW, you were great in "Jingle All the Way!"

JakeLloyd: Yes, I want to pursue it as a career. I want to put all the money I make towards college. I really want to study physics. I think I would like it.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-Zacho says: Jake, were there any parts of making the movie that you disliked?

JakeLloyd: No, except for leaving the set at the end of each day. I couldn't wait to get on the set each day for filming.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-Ben68240 says: Jake, who is your favorite new character besides Anakin Skywalker?

JakeLloyd: Jar Jar was. Jar Jar is funny and a very nice character. I also like Sebulba.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-Oliphant says: After all of this, will amusement parks seem dull?

JakeLloyd: The excitement of this film is always more than going to an amusement park. Actually, I enjoy doing any film more.

AskLucasfilm: R2-kat says: Jake, what is the most exciting thing you have been able to do with this movie?

JakeLloyd: The most fun was just working on the film, working with such talented people and all the actors.

AskLucasfilm: Jedi-Music4me says: Mr. Lloyd, how old were you when you started acting?

JakeL
loyd: I was about 5 when I started, almost 6. My first job was a commercial.

AskLucasfilm: TalkCity says: Jake, thank you for being with us tonight! Is there something you would like to say before we sign off for the evening?

Interview with Jake Lloyd on Entertainment Tonight, May 14, 1999

From Entertainment Tonight

"I got to meet some extraordinary actors and got to work with one of the best directors in the world."
-- Jake Lloyd

As 'Star Wars' fever peaks, we talked with Young Anakin Skywalker to see how he's dealing with all of the fame! We chatted one-on-one with this crazy young actor, JAKE LLOYD!

ET: When you were in the pod, did you have to shake yourself or did the pod shake you?

Jake Lloyd: Actually, there were these three bars on the side and there were like five people, one in the middle and two on each end. And they'd be like, "Okay, turn to the left." And I'd be like, whoaaa. Everyone would just push down.

ET: So no hydraulics, it was all human power?

Jake: Yeah. And everyone else would go (grunts).

ET: How would you go?

Jake: I would go (has dazed look on his face) hum dee dum.

ET: So you had the easy job, didn't you?

Jake: No, they got their fair share. They didn't have to go to Tunisia.

ET: What was that like?

Jake: It's not a place that you want to go. The main stuff that you have to have is a pool, swimming suits, a director, actors. Well, just because it's so expensive to live there. And the sunscreen is like ten bucks for just a little bottle.

ET: Now, what was that device that I read about that freezes things?

Jake: It's just a little can of stuff that they used on the metal in Tunisia so it would stay a little bit cold so I can touch it.

ET: So it was sort of like "ice in a can" kind of thing? And what were you doing with that?

Jake: RICK MCCALLUM. I hate it when he smokes. I hate it when anyone smokes. Well, he had this leather pouch that had all his cigarettes in. So what I did was I snuck up behind him and opened up the case and I sprayed it all in there. He couldn't get it out, and when he could-they didn't taste very good.

ET: So you froze his cigarettes! Well, MEL GIBSON has the reputation of being a big prankster on the set. Would that be you?

Jake: Yes.

ET: "Yes -- and I admit it freely." (laughs) What was your best prank?

Jake. Best prank... My best prank was that I told EWAN MCGREGOR a riddle, but it was a riddle that I had just made up, so there was no answer for it. And then two years later, I told him it was a fake riddle. And he had been trying to figure it out all that time.

ET: Two years! So since filming, he's been trying to figure out your riddle? You know, he's going to try and get you back now.

Jake: Oh, I don't see how he can..

ET: What has been the best part about being involved in this movie?

Jake: All of it. I got to meet some extraordinary actors and got to work with one of the best directors in the world [George Lucas]. And it's really fun.

ET: This movie was so fun to watch and so fun to be a part of, was it fun to make?

Jake: Yes, it was fun to make. It was very fun to make.

ET: Even all the blue screen stuff?

Jake: Yeah. All George would say is, "Okay. He's about 'this' height and he has about 70 eyes and like nine arms."

ET: And you'd be like, "Okay George. Whatever you say." (laughs) Do you have a favorite character? You can't say Anakin.

Jake: Not like I was gonna say Anakin.

ET: Okay, because I'm going to say that Anakin was my favorite.

Jake: Thank you. (reaches forward and shakes Jann's hand) I really like you.

ET: You really did a wonderful job.

Jake: Thanks. I really think that Ewan and LIAM NEESON did a really great job. I have to laugh at the balcony scene though -- it was really hilarious!

ET: On the set, did you ever get to wield a light saber?

Jake: Yes, I did.

ET: Now who shared their light saber more and who was touchy about you touching their light saber?

Jake: It was different with the iron ones than the ones that hang. With the hanging ones, they would all be like, "You touch this, you die!" It was a whole joke with Ewan and Liam because Ewan was like, "My light saber's the best thing I've ever had." He would like put his cloak behind it to sort of show it off. It was hilarious.

ET: Last night I was at the screening and I walked out and there you were with your sweatshirt and your hood. Now, what was with the hood?

Jake: Well, I didn't want to be recognized.

ET: You think that's going to happen a lot?

Jake: Yeah. Especially with that hood now. I'm just more obvious. "Hey, look at that kid-- it's Jake Lloyd!" "No, it isn't! Yes, it is!"

ET: Have you had a lot of that already?

Jake: Oh, yeah.

ET: (Holding up the Anakin Skywalker action figure) You know what I've got here...

Jake: Yeah, I see it in your hand there.

ET: What do you think?

Jake: (Spins the head around and pushes the arms all the way back) I broke my arm!

ET: So what do you think when you look at an action figure of yourself?

Jake: Um... the legs are a little chubby. That's not cool. But the goggles are so cool. (pointing at the helmet) This was actually a bike helmet with all these little attachments. And the goggles had leather on the side. They were so awesome.

ET: Did you get to keep anything?

Jake: Yes, I got to keep my Jedi costume.

ET: Very cool. Now, what about this (pulling out a Pepsi can with his likeness on it)?

Jake: How come they put me on Pepsi? I can only drink Diet Pepsi.

ET: You're probably on both. Now, your sister was in this...

Jake: Yes, did you see her? She was the one in green right behind me. You just look right over my shoulder and there she is.

ET: Okay. I'll go back and I'll look. I have to go back and take my husband. He's very upset that I saw the movie before he did.

Jake: A lot of my friends are very upset that I saw the film before they did. A lot of the people that worked on the film are very upset that I saw the film before they did.

ET: How many times are you going to watch this movie?

Jake: Oh, gosh. Mom has this whole list of everyone she wants to invite and I have to go to every single one and... be congratulated. By the time I'm done, my head won't fit out the door.

Interview aus dem "TV-Spielfilm" Deutsch (August 1999)

TV-Spielfilm: Hast Du Dich an Halloween schon mal als Darth Vader verkleidet?
Jake Lloyd: Ja, als ich fünf war. Jetzt bin ich zehn.

TV-Spielfilm: Für die Rolle standen 3000 Kinder zur Auswahl. Was hast Du gedacht, als Du genommen wurdest?
Jake Lloyd: Es war eine Menge Glück dabei.

TV-Spielfilm: Was war für Dich das Schwerste am Dreh?
Jake Lloyd: Am letzten Drehtag abzureisen.

Jake Lloyd: Kein Kommentar.

TV-Spielfilm: Was ist die "dunkle Bedrohung" in Deinem eigenen Leben?
Jake Lloyd: Meine Schwester Madison (1991).

Translated from the German TV-Magazin "TV-Spielfilm" (August 1999)

TV-Spielfilm: Have you ever been dressed up as Darth Vader on Halloween?
Jake Lloyd: Yes, when I was five. Now I´m ten.

TV-Spielfilm: About 3000 boys were trying to get the role of "Anakin Skywalker". What have you thought, when you were selected?
Jake Lloyd: I had a lot of luck.

TV-Spielfilm: What was the most difficult scene when doing the shooting?
Jake Lloyd: Flying home on the last day of shooting.

TV-Spielfilm: You´ve travelled a lot for your age. Where would you like to go next?
Jake Lloyd: If here is Mount Everest, then we are in basiscamp 4 now. There are four camps and then only the peak.

TV-Spielfilm: Do you know, what´s going on in the next episode?
Jake Lloyd: Yes, but I´ve sworn, to keep my mouth shut, and I´m also doing it. Big brother sees everything, in this case: Lucasfilm hears everything.

TV-Spielfilm: What is "the power" for you?
Jake Lloyd: I don´t think, that it exists.

TV-Spielfilm: It´s like a God?
Jake Lloyd: No comment.

TV-Spielfilm: What is the "dark threat" in your own life?
Jake Lloyd: My sister Madison. She throws my "Star Wars"-actionfigures from top of the stairs and says: eh, Jake, you really can fly. If I had Jedi-power, I would let them fly.

TV-Spielfilm: What would you do, if you had a lightsword at home?
Jake Lloyd: (miming a stroke): Bar-bie, Bar-bie....!

Interview by Kevin Fitzpatrick

On a sunny day, Jake Lloyd and his family took a trip to Central Park before meeting media members from around the country.

The young actor walks in and announces to the reporters, "Hi, I'm the light side."

Dressed in jeans and a black T-shirt, the 10-year-old fourth grader is very animated. He has been sitting for interviews for three days straight, and he finds it hard to sit still in his chair. And answer questions with a straight answer.

QUESTION:  You know what your character grows up to become. Did you have that in the back of your mind while you were playing him?

JAKE:   No. Because Anakin doesn't know what he's going to grow up to be. He grows up to be a good guy. Darth Vader is a good guy. He kills the emperor, I think that's enough of a redemption, but also, he had so many chances to kill so many people, but he didn't. He could have killed Luke five or six times. But he didn't. And he could have laughed at his mother, "ha, ha, ha, you're still a slave." Then ran away. But he didn't. He could have pod-raced just for fun, not to help his friends. But he didn't. He pod-raced to help them. He could have killed so many people so easily, but he didn't.

QUESTION:  Which of the original STAR WARS trilogy is your favorite?

JAKE:   The first and the third. The first and the third has more action and more storytelling and the second one sets up the third one, which drove me insane. The third one is great. I love the third one. And Boba Fett had a bigger part in the third one. Han Solo is one of my favorite characters and I didn't like when he was frozen in carbonite. And you know Darth Vader, who is a good guy because he brings balance to The Force, is the best.

QUESTION:  How many times did you see the original movies before you started on this one?

JAKE:  Enough to where I could say my lines ten minutes before the actual actors could.

QUESTION:  Who is your favorite character in the new film, besides, of course, you?

JAKE:   I wasn't even gonna say me! (Laughs). I like Jar Jar. And Teemto Pagalies and Ben Quadinaros. They are podracers. Teemto's the one when he blows up, his pod bounces on the ground like a wheel. Ben Quadinaros is the one with the quadruple engines that fire off all over the place.

QUESTION:  So have you had a chance to pick up any of the action figures or anything like that?

JAKE:  Oh, I have all of 'em from Episode I.

QUESTION:  What about from the original trilogy, do you collect those too?

JAKE:  Yeah, I have a lot of 'em.

QUESTION:  Did Lucasfilm send you a box of toys yet?

JAKE:  Oh, yeah, and a box of props. I have my Jedi costume.

QUESTION:  Do you think your action figure looks like you?

JAKE:  Yes, it does, yes.

QUESTION:  What do you think of the idea of kids playing with Anakin toys, dogs biting your toys?

JAKE:   Somebody's doing that already! (Laughs) I don't like to picture that idea. "Here, Fluffy, Fluffy, Fluffy…" or, "Hey Jake, I taught my dog a new trick."

QUESTION:  Was it kind of weird looking at yourself in plastic?

JAKE:   It was! (Big Laugh) It was kind of odd, because I've always wanted to be an action figure. Now I can actually play with myself. Like okay, I get to be Batman. And now I get to be Anakin.

QUESTION:  What's your favorite scene?

JAKE:  Well, all of it. All of it. I really liked all of it.

QUESTION:  What was Tunisia like?

JAKE:  It was fun. Hot. The main song that's in Tunisia was "Feelin' Hot, Hot, Hot."

QUESTION:  Did you play with lightsabers on the set?

JAKE:  Yes, they are iron rods, I love those iron rods.

QUESTION:  Did you duel anybody?

JAKE:  Yes, a lot of people went home that day with numb fingers.

QUESTION:  Did you learn any stuff from Ray Park?

JAKE:  I learned to run from him! (Laughs). Like, he's got a lightsaber! Run!

QUESTION:  What was it like when you first saw him in full makeup?

JAKE:  I said, you remind me of a horn. He has a whole bunch of horns, that's why.

QUESTION:  How did you film the scenes with Watto?

JAKE:   He was a guy and he was wearin' a crazy hat or something. It's simple. He's flying about this level (holding his hands up). His eyes are around here, and his wing spans are about here, so you have to walk around. If you can't walk like that, you have to walk under him. His legs are about that high and you know, it's easy.

QUESTION:  How did you like working with Pernilla August? Was she a good mom on the set too?

JAKE:  Yeah. She was really nice to work with. She's a very, a nice lady to work with. She is amazing.

QUESTION:  You have a lot of scenes with Liam Neeson. What's he like?

JAKE:  He's a very talented actor. He's a very nice guy.

QUESTION:  Did you guys hang out on the set when you weren't' working?

JAKE:  Yes.

QUESTION:  What kind of things did you do?

JAKE:   We did all kinds of stuff. We had lightsaber fights. I went home with a numb hand. I have a Luke Skywalker hand. We'd make jokes, practical jokes. I'd tell riddles and I wouldn't tell him the answers until two years later.

QUESTION:  What's it like to work with George Lucas?

JAKE:   It's fun. He's a very talented director. He gets the utmost performance out of every actor he works with, and he's a very nice guy.

QUESTION:  Did he say something to you about the character that helped you?

JAKE:  No, he let us play 'em out how we wanted and then tweaked it around a little bit, so it's the way he wanted it.

QUESTION:  What was your favorite computer generated character in this movie?

JAKE:   Jar Jar is the best. Just the way the character's portrayed, the way the character has been singled out and banished and all the stuff that anybody would have want to have happen to them.

QUESTION:  When you weren't working on the set, what did you do?

JAKE:  I'd hang out with everybody else. It's like schoolmates, you know?

QUESTION:  Did George describe the Force to you? If he did or didn't, what is your impression of what the Force is?

JAKE:   The Force is midi-chlorians that reside inside of every human's body. And not just humans but every creature's body. Without the midi-chlorians we couldn't live and without us the midi-chlorians couldn't live. Now, the Force is how many midi-chlorians you have in a blood speck. I have over 200,000. Not even Yoda has that much.

QUESTION:  How hard was it to get this role? How long did you have to audition and read for it?

JAKE:  I had to read for it once but I also had to go in four times over six years.

QUESTION:  What scene did you read?

JAKE:  I read the "Are you an angel?" scene.

QUESTION:  What was your reaction when you got it?

JAKE:   I started yelling and then I took a deep breath and I was like, "Oh my god, I got STAR WARS." Then I yelled, then I took a deep breath, and I went "Oh my gosh, I got STAR WARS." And then I started crying and then when I was done with that…

QUESTION:  Does it disappoint you to know that Anakin will be in the next one but you more than likely will not be playing him?

JAKE:  Well, as long as it takes for them to cast these films, I might just have a chance.

QUESTION:  Or could you possibly come back and be somebody else in the next film?

JAKE:  Young Jar Jar, Jar Jar's son.

QUESTION:  What was it like acting to the blue screen?

JAKE:   For me pretty easy. I would imagine "he's about this height, he has about 755 legs, 9 eyes, 6 tails, 730 spots," you know, pretty easy.

QUESTION:  George would describe what the creatures were going to look like?

JAKE:  Yes, he would.

QUESTION:  How did you feel when you first saw that pod racer sequence?

JAKE:   I thought it was amazing because every pod had its own sound. Sebulba had his Harley-Davidson, I had my little Pinto sound. I had my Toyota sound.

QUESTION:  You say it was one of your favorite scenes?

JAKE:  No. I loved all of them. They're all my favorite scenes because the entire film was outstanding.

QUESTION:  Do you know anything about what's going to happen in Episode II?

JAKE:   Yes. But I am sworn to secrecy, because if I told anybody, they know where I live. Everyone is listening. Lucasfilm is listening. (Laughs)

QUESTION:  Jake, what do your friends say to you about the movie? What do they ask you?

JAKE:  "Hey Jake, what's the plot?" (Laughs).

QUESTION:  How is this gonna change 4th grade for you?

JAKE:  Nothing. It's not going to change at all.

QUESTION:  Is that wishful thinking?

JAKE:  I just hope, you know?

QUESTION:  Does being in STAR WARS impress your friends?

JAKE:  No. They don't really care. I told them I was going to be in the movie. They said, "So"?

QUESTION:  Is being a young celebrity a hassle?

JAKE:   The only time it really bugs me is when I'm recognized. It's happens more at STAR WARS conventions and stuff like that. And on the street.

QUESTION:  How do you handle it? What do you do?

JAKE:  Run.

QUESTION:  You dropped by the Episode I line in Hollywood, right? To sit with some of the fans who were waiting in line?

JAKE:  Yes.

QUESTION:  When you put yourself in a situation like that, you know that you're going to be recognized.

JAKE:   Well, yeah, that's why I went out there, so I could say hi to them. Because they're standing in line for over a month. So, what the heck, make it worthwhile.

QUESTION:  Do you think it's nuts for people to sit outside in line?

JAKE:   No, 'cause they're doing it for a good cause. Because every hour they spend out there is money that goes to the Starlight Foundation.

QUESTION:   What's the worst part about being recognized? Does it just make you feel real creepy that this person knows you but you don't know them?

JAKE:   Sometimes it's more than that. You get people who wait outside your hotel. And if you will stop and they're like "Oh, can I have your autograph?" you give it to them, next day they're still out there. It's kind of scary.

QUESTION:  Do you ever have second thoughts? Do you think maybe I shouldn't have gotten into this?

JAKE:  No. No.

QUESTION:  Is the movie business fun?

JAKE:  I only am in this business because I enjoy it. I think that is the only way to be in the business.

QUESTION:   So how do you feel about violence in the movies? Obviously you want to see movies your mom doesn't want you to. You think it can influence kids as young as you, or what?

JAKE:   No. Violence is used to portray what happens in a film. It only helps portray the actors and what they do. I think it is more about the story, when you have something to play off of. Look at STAR WARS. You have barely any Gungans or humans being killed. But you have a whole bunch of robots being slaughtered, you know. To the effect that all the violence in a film can get a response. It's up to the adults how to take care of your kids, try to influence us. And that's pretty much why we have parents, so that they could decide whether or not we're old enough to see this film. Or whether or not we can see a film when we're ready to see it. I actually just saw "Schindler's List," which made me cry throughout the entire film. But I was actually pretty much studying it, studying the Holocaust. So I think it's up to the adults to decide when their kids are ready or not.

QUESTION:  If you could have a Jedi trait in real life, which one would you want?

JAKE:   Well, a lightsaber. I already have one. Probably the Force. That's the only trait that Jedi have, just the Force and those lightsabers. (Laughs).

QUESTION:  Do you read comic books?

JAKE:   I'm not really into comic books because they're not that long. I'd rather read a good old book any day with a good, I don't know, 500 pages.

QUESTION:  What are you reading these days?

JAKE:  Tolkien. Lord of the Rings.

QUESTION:  Is it a hard transition, going from the set to getting back to schoolwork?

JAKE:   More like an unlucky transition. I'd rather be on the set than at school. It's more fun. Sometimes I try to schedule getting one of my teeth pulled instead of going to school.

QUESTION:  Are you an A student?

JAKE:  I'm an A, B student.

QUESTION:  Do you have a favorite subject?

JAKE:  Science, mathematics, history, archaeology.

QUESTION:  You take archaeology in fourth grade?

JAKE:  Once again, you fell for that hook, line and sinker. And everyone else did.

Chat Transcript with Jake on AOL

This Interview was done on APRIL 6 2000 and Jake has grown up!

Host: Hello. Welcome to Studio I. I'm your host, Matt Wagner, here with the young Jake Lloyd from "Star Wars: Episode I -- The Phantom Menace." Today we're celebrating the worldwide release of -- the worldwide video release of the movie. It's very exciting, and this is the first time it's ever happened, right, a video has been released worldwide, all at once?

Jake Lloyd: I think so. I don't know.

Host: How does that feel to have your movie all over the world?

Jake Lloyd: It's kind of weird. To have one film that's introduced everywhere in the world, in the same period of time, to where.... Hey, I have an idea. Since they're about eight hours ahead, why don't we buy the video at the same time, except we'll buy it after them.

Host: Right. Right. We have a lot of questions, a lot of "Star Wars" fans ready to go. So if you're ready, we'll get go going on questions. X-files 643 2: Did you enjoy making "Phantom"?

Jake Lloyd: Oh, yeah. It was really fun. It was really cool. It was like one huge playground. I mean, the sets were so cool. I mean, it was just like walking into...

Host: A toy store?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. Not necessarily a toy store, but you know how all the sets looked on -- like on Coruscant and stuff like that. They were really cool.

Host: Did you shoot all over the world?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. We shot in England. They shot in Italy. I went to EuroDisney.

Host: Now, what was your favorite spot to shoot at?

Jake Lloyd: I'm thinking England. It wasn't as hot or humid. It was just -- just rained a lot more.

Host: You like the rain more than the heat?

Jake Lloyd: I'm thinking heat's a lot better. But rain, for a long period of time and still have a little bit of sunshine, it's a lot better than complete heat.

Host: Like desert with no water. Yeah. Frozen Lee wants to know: Did you get to meet George Lucas...? Well, what was he like? You obviously met George Lucas.

Jake Lloyd: Yes.

Host: What's he like?

Jake Lloyd: He's probably the biggest kid I know. Host: Really?

Jake Lloyd: I mean, he just laughs pretty much at everything.

Host: Really?

Jake Lloyd: I know.

Host: Does he play? Do you mean he goes around playing -- does he play with toys and stuff? Jake Lloyd: No. He's just really laid back, and he's just a really great guy. Probably one of the nicest guys I've ever worked with.

Host: When did you first meet him? Was it when you auditioned for the movie?

Jake Lloyd: I auditioned for two years, once every six months, because I was too young at the time to film it, and every six months, every time I started growing. And then, finally, I went in with two other kids up to George Lucas' ranch.

Host: Cool.

Jake Lloyd: Oh, yeah. It's the coolest place ever. It's awesome! They have Lake Ewok that they shoot the fireworks over on the Fourth of July.

Host: Awesome. So you met him there?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. Then me and two other kids went. Actually, one of which is still -- I'm best friends with.
 Host: Oh, cool.

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. He's a really cool kid. He's a rather -- he has a rather heavy Brooklyn accent. He's a great guy. Host: Where are you from? Where did you grow up?

Jake Lloyd: Here in California.

Host: Cool. It's pretty exciting for you to get this movie, travel around the world. How did you find out? You know, how did you hear? When did the big news come?

Jake Lloyd: I was at my agent's office Sundays and -- Cindy and Robin called on the phone and asked me whether I wanted to go to England for about four or five months. I didn't mind.

Host: Right.

Jake Lloyd: I wouldn't mind.

Host: Sure. And be in like the biggest movie ever.

Jake Lloyd: Well, it was.

Host: Right. It was. Next question's from K2 Spitfire: Hey, Jake. Just wondering how you got to audition for the part and how many other people were auditioning, besides the two people you mentioned.

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. There was about 3,000 other kids all over the world.

Host: Wow. Oh, my God.

Jake Lloyd: I guess luck is how I auditioned.

Host: Well, you'd been acting before?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. But really, luck. They -- it was really kind of a hard thing to get, because of the fact that he wanted someone that wasn't as well known, wasn't very well known. Well, "Jingle All the Way" and “Hook.”

Host: Right. Jedi Psad 3 wants to know: I heard you auditioned for "Sixth Sense." What was that like?
Jake Lloyd: It was cool. I got to go ever so far, then Haley got it.

Host: Are you friends?

Jake Lloyd: Yes. Haley is a good kid. He's a great friend.

Host: Are you auditioning a lot?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. I love auditioning.

Host: Wow. I'm sure a lot of actors envy you.

Jake Lloyd: I don't know.

Host: Yeah. T2 pohon: I can't pronounce some of these names. They're like aliens or something. How old are you?
Jake Lloyd: Eleven.

Host: How long have you been acting?

Jake Lloyd: Since I was about five.

Host: You got six good years in there. Better than most people.

Jake Lloyd: Six years is a little -- has been a long time.

Host: You're an old man now. Fire Mac 2d says: Is it weird seeing your picture on everything from shower curtains to bed sheets? Your picture, the picture is on everything, the picture of Anakin. Is that bizarre?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah.

Host: Do you own any of that stuff?

Jake Lloyd: No. I refuse to get anything with my face on it, unless it aggravates one of my friends. Then I do it because of that.
Host: Do you have the toys? Do you have your own toys?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. My mom and dad had a collection. They had this cool thing. For my birthday, I got the Obi-Wan Kenobi light sabers. It was cool. I had the three light sabers in the case. One Darth Vader, one Luke Skywalker, one Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Host: The long, plastic ones?

Jake Lloyd: No, just the light saber part.

Host: When I was a kid, I'd go out on Halloween and bash people with them. But they broke. We think along the same lines. Kind of. Phyllis 66 says: Do you think the "Star Wars" toy looks like you? And what is your favorite toy? Do you think it looks like you?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. It's kind of cool. I bought two Anakin things. Each one -- it has different hair. It's cool, because every day you're in teenage years, your hair gets lighter.

Host: This is your normal hair color now?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah, pretty much dark. Give it a couple more months, it will be blonde.

Host: Right. Right. Now, what's your favorite toy? Do you have a favorite?

Jake Lloyd: Favorite "Star Wars" toy?

Host: Favorite "Star Wars," or others. Do you have like...

Jake Lloyd: My favorite toy, just in general, is probably -- well, "Star Wars," the double-sided light sabers. Those are fun.
Host: I haven't played with one yet.

Jake Lloyd: If we have a light saber fight, I get the double-sided. Can I take two of those and stick them together?
Host: Tape them together. Those are awesome. Those are really cool. Are you sick of people -- Opopopop wants to know: Are you sick of people making Darth Vader references?

Jake Lloyd: I get called Darth. It was really annoying when people thought I was Luke. I'm like, I don't think Luke Skywalker is about 32 years old in the first "Star Wars" film. I'm thinking he's still about 16 or 17.

Host: The first one takes place like years before.

Jake Lloyd: Oh, yeah. It takes place about 30 years before.
Host: Right, right. Now, did you see the movies before you made the first one?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah, Darth Vader was actually my favorite character. He's the coolest.

Host: He is the coolest.

Jake Lloyd: He's the only good guy, too, because he does bring balance to the force.

Host: Right.
Jake Lloyd: He made some mistakes. He only killed about, oh, six billion people at once.

Host: Right. Right. But it was just a mistake. You can forgive the guy, I guess.

Jake Lloyd: No. But he's the coolest. He breathes heavily. He jogs all day, I bet. Just all day, up and down those starships. "Luke [breathing heavily], I am your father."

Host: Do you have a mask?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. I was Darth Vader before the re-release. People were like, "Cool helmet. Who are you?"
Host: Really?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. It was like 25 years after and the release hadn't come out again. On review-wise of my costume, adults like it.
Host: All the adults. The kids didn't quite know. Now everybody knows for sure. One thing interesting with Darth Vader, he was my hero. I had his poster over my [bed]. Every night, I got a nosebleed, so my mom took it down. It was really weird. I thought in my weird imagination that he was cutting my nose with his light saber. I was seven. You know, I was young. I didn't know. Am I OK, Jake?

Jake Lloyd: I'm sorry.

Host: Are you afraid of me now? Am I a little weird?

Jake Lloyd: I don't know....

Host: Let's take more questions from the normal people in the audience. Next question: Did you like working with Natalie Portman? Is she hot?

Jake Lloyd: I was eight. And I'm 11. I'm still 11.

Host: Right. But did you like...

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. She's awesome. I really like working with her. She's funny.

Host: Really?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah.

Host: Do you still hang out?

Jake Lloyd: I don't. I don't really get to hang out with any of them now.

Host: How about the other cast people, like Ewan?

Jake Lloyd: I've seen Ewan. I saw them all at the premier in London. But I haven't seen them since. Every time Scott comes to town. It's always the other group. Always!

Host: The other group?

Jake Lloyd: There's two groups.

Host: Vader 567 says: Do you know who's going to play you in the next movie? Who would you like to be the grown-up Anakin?
Jake Lloyd: I have no idea about who's going to be in the next film. But I would like for my friend Chris to be in it, because he's -- I'm really a little version of him.

Host: Chris who?

Jake Lloyd: Hofspring. I have the same size head. I've got the large pumpkin head. It's huge.

Host: Do people call you that, Pumpkin Head?

Jake Lloyd: Oh, yeah, I'm pumpkin. I'm the Great Pumpkin.

Host: Who calls you that?

Jake Lloyd: Pretty much all of my friends.

Host: Really? Did you ever dress up as the Great Pumpkin for Halloween?

Jake Lloyd: No. I'm sure it's quite obvious without the costume. Hey, look, who are you? The Great Pumpkin.
Host: Mikey Sega wants to know: Do you play any sports?

Jake Lloyd: Oh, yeah. I want to play football.

Host: Really?
Jake Lloyd: Yes.

Host: Which position are you?

Jake Lloyd: Quarterback.

Host: Do you play now?

Jake Lloyd: No. I just toss the ball around every once in a while.

Host: So you want to play in school and stuff like that?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah.

Host: Do you ever think about going professional?

Jake Lloyd: No. No. I don't think so. That means everyone once again will be out to get me.

Host: What do you mean by that? People are out to get you?

Jake Lloyd: Oh, no. Practical joke.

Host: People pull practical jokes on you?

Jake Lloyd: Oh, yeah.

Host: Who does that?

Jake Lloyd: Chris. Pretty much all 500 of his friends.

Host: Really? What's the meanest thing they pulled on you? Can you say it?

Jake Lloyd: I don't know.

Host: You ever pull practical jokes in revenge to get back at them?

Jake Lloyd: I try not to, but I do.

Host: Youngblood X wants to know: What was it like on your first day of shooting, when you first went on the set of "Star Wars"? What was it like?

Jake Lloyd: It was pretty uncomfortable, because no one knew each other. Well, I didn't know anybody. I'm pretty sure all the adults knew each other. I'm just...

Host: Looking around?

Jake Lloyd: Right. The first scene was the one on Coruscant where we're sitting in the lobby while they're all talking. That's the first scene we shot.

Host: Cool. Now, what was it like working with, like, you know, Jar Jar and other characters who weren't there?
Jake Lloyd: Jar Jar was there. Every once in a while he wasn't, so I got made fun of for talking to myself. I was having good conversations with myself most of the time. I even talked Wado to myself.

Host: Who taught you those languages?

Jake Lloyd: A little tape. It was really cool. They're really awesome.

Host: How much did you have to learn?

Jake Lloyd: I only had to learned that -- learned that stuff. I wanted to learn more. They use it as an actual language. It's a whole bunch of little chopped-up languages put into one. It's kind of cool.

Host: Who made that up?

Jake Lloyd: Some people in Africa will be watching and all of a sudden they'll see "refrigerator" on the bottom of the screen.

Host: Right, right. They're like, why are they saying refrigerator? I guess because it's so hot in the desert, they need a refrigerator.

Jake Lloyd: Mm-hmm.
Host: No?

Jake Lloyd: He hasn't made the connection.

Host: That's why you need me here to make the weird connections. Ripper 547 wants to know: What was your favorite scene you made in the movie?

Jake Lloyd: I liked being shaken up and down. That's pretty much what I did, I moved my arms back and forth or look serious and duck, then I got moved up and down.

Host: Was it on some big...

Jake Lloyd: No, it was the actual pod. But they also had one that actually moved. You could sit in it and push both things in there and the little tracks on the bottom. It was like a tank, except with the Anakin pod on top.

Host: Then they make it shake and stuff?

Jake Lloyd: No, not on that one. That one, you just move around. It's like a go-cart almost. But it doesn't go as fast. It's like a golf cart.

Host: That's cool. You got to drive it by yourself?

Jake Lloyd: Oh, no. I just -- I was grounded from the golf carts for the entire shoot, yeah.

Host: Well, the crazy driver?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah, pretty much. That was me. That was me.

Host: Cool. Blubbery Love -- that's a good name -- Hey, Jake, I'm sitting in my computer class totally ignoring my professor. Just want to ask, do you have any upcoming movies?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah, actually. It's called "Madison." It's a hydroplane boat-racing film. It's about the 1971 Gold Cup win for Madison.

Host: Do you get...

Jake Lloyd: No.

Host: You don't get to race?

Jake Lloyd: No. I got kept away from that, as well. They were really big, fat golf carts. No windshield, either.

Host: Do you have the video game of the pod race?

Jake Lloyd: I have pretty much all the video games. They're awesome. I love the pod racer one.

Host: It's really cool.

Jake Lloyd: Oh, yeah. It's fun.

Host: Let's see, Stefano wants to know: Are you recognized by fans when you walk down the streets?

Jake Lloyd: Sometimes.

Host: Is that weird for you?

Jake Lloyd: It's kind of weird. But after a while, you get used to it. And I just wear one of those extra, extra large size Rollins bags over my head.

Host: So when we see that --

Jake Lloyd: No, I don't actually do that. I wish.

Host: Calinda says: Hi, Jake. You are an extremely talented actor. How was your experience working on the set of your new movie "Crown of Blood"? Can you tell us about it? Is that a movie you're in?
Jake Lloyd: No.

Host: OK. So it was a very unknown experience.

Jake Lloyd: It was different. I kind of did the film by osmosis.

Host: Right. Maybe they have the CGI Jake Lloyd.

Jake Lloyd: I don't think so.

Host: Mike Sega says: Do you have any pets?
Jake Lloyd: I do. It's a Doberman pinscher. She's a great dog. We tied one of her toys around the banister, one of her tug toys. Now she sits there trying to tug it off the wall. We tied it in really tight knots. So now she makes it tighter every time she pulls on it.

Host: Eventually, she's going to pull the house down, don't you think?

Jake Lloyd: She already ripped its head off. It's quite sad. She ripped the little Nano's head off.

Host: That was a very upsetting day in your house, I'm sure.

Jake Lloyd: Kind of.

Host: Yeah. Bullbert 69 says: Are you like Richey Rich now? Do you have a big limo?
Jake Lloyd: No, I have no limo. I'm not like Richey Rich at all. Because Richey Rich can touch his money before he's 18.

Host: You're just like counting the years?

Jake Lloyd: Oh, yes! College! Good college.

Host: Cool. That's cool. That's what you're going to use all that money for? That's good.

Jake Lloyd: College. House. Car. Chicks dig the car.

Host: You'll be set, man. You'll be educated, have a house and a car. Better than me. I only have my clothes I'm wearing. I don't have an education or a car or house. Mootski 22 says: Jake, I'm a big fan of yours. I wanted to know if you're planning on acting all your life.

Jake Lloyd: No. I'm thinking the college money's going towards being a physicist.

Host: Really? What is it about physics you like?

Jake Lloyd: I like the possibility of putting two chemicals together and blowing the house up. I like that.

Host: Do you have a chemistry set at home?

Jake Lloyd: Yes. Actually, my friend gave it to me.

Host: Cool. Do you make strange things?

Jake Lloyd: I made a stink bomb. My sister hated it. I was grounded for three months.

Host: Do you get grounded often?

Jake Lloyd: Oh, yes. I'm 11. I'm 11.

Host: That's your excuse, right?

Jake Lloyd: It will be until I turn 12. Then I'll be, "I'm 12."

Host: Then when you're 18, you're like, "I'm out of here."

Jake Lloyd: "Bye."
Host: Laura wants to know: Do you have a girlfriend?

Jake Lloyd: No. I'm 11. That will be my excuse when I'm the freaky kid in the back corner of the class.

Host: Right, I'm 11. Who's that?

Jake Lloyd: Hmm, I'm 18.

Host: Mk Ashman says: Have you ever met Mark Hamill?

Jake Lloyd: No. I've only met his son.

Host: Do you look forward to meeting him? Are you a fan of his? Were you a fan of Luke?

Jake Lloyd: He's a cool guy. I thought Luke was cool.

Host: Cool. Do you think there ever will be a get-together of the "Star Wars" people?

Jake Lloyd: I met Harrison Ford. He's awesome. He went to the screening for "Star Wars" in New York, because there's a press screening. We went to it every night, because we hadn't seen it before. We're like, cool.
Host: How many times have you seen the movie?

Jake Lloyd: I guess a high number. That's probably it.

Host: Multiply by two?

Jake Lloyd: Right. Divide by two then multiply by 50.

Host: Next question: What type of music do you listen to? What are your favorite bands?

Jake Lloyd: I listen to a lot of rock. I like swing.

Host: Swing music?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. I like a lot of music, a lot of different music. I like classical music.

Host: Really?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah.

Host: That's good for 11.

Jake Lloyd: Yeah, for being -- I'm 11. But I like Big Bad Voodoo Daddies.

Host: They're cool. Do you know how to swing dance?

Jake Lloyd: No. I have a zoot suit, but I don't know how to use it.

Host: Expo 999 says: Who was more fun to work with, Arnold Schwarzenegger or Yoda?

Jake Lloyd: Yoda is an inanimate object -- Arnold was cool. They're both very intelligent people. Host: You know what's weird for me? They’re like puppets, Muppets, like Kermit and Yoda. I always think they're real, like real people. Then you see them -- it must be weird to actually meet the actual person. You know what I'm saying? Jake Lloyd: Yes.

Host: Yeah. Calinda says: What was it like working with Liam Neeson and Ewan McGregor?

Jake Lloyd: They're very nice guys. They're really cool. Ewan is -- has a fairly good Irish accent. But I can only do Scottish.

Host: As you grow older, as you become 12, maybe 13, you'll get the Irish accent.

Jake Lloyd: Maybe 13. I won't get there, probably. Maybe 13. Maybe!

Host: And Liam is really tall.

Jake Lloyd: Oh, yes. He's a giant. He's a big, bearded guy. Big guy.

Host: Right. Cog Hockey says: Hi, Jake. Do you have any favorite actresses?

Jake Lloyd: I don't know.

Host: Azm Bip says: What Nintendo systems do you have?

Jake Lloyd: I have four.

Host: Four?

Jake Lloyd: Because each place I go -- I went to Jay Leno and I got a 64. I went to the Nintendo factory and I got two. I got one from Rick. I got -- I like Supersmash brothers, though. Have you played that?
Host: No. Is that a good game?

Jake Lloyd: It's rather funny.

Host: You go to all these places and you get a Nintendo. You come to AOL and you get a Coke.

Jake Lloyd: That's the best one of them all. I'll do anything for a Coke.

Host: There you go. There you go. Cleopatra 356: How has your life been since "Star Wars"? How has it changed your life?

Jake Lloyd: Things get a little more exciting every once in a while. But otherwise, nothing really. Just....

Host: Kind of the same life?

Jake Lloyd: Yeah.

Host: You probably met a lot more people than you have before.

Jake Lloyd: Yeah. I'm pretty sure I've met a good population of the American society.

Host: Right. Pretty much almost everyone is shaking your hand. Fire Mac 2d says: What's the weirdest thing, what's the strangest thing a "Star Wars" fan has asked you?

Jake Lloyd: How does it feel being Jesus?

Host: How does it feel, Jake?

Jake Lloyd: Well, I'm pretty sure being Jesus isn't a bad thing. But personally, I'm not there. I'm thinking it goes God, Jesus, George Lucas, all of the directors and producers, then I'm down there just low, going....
 Host: I'm 11.

Jake Lloyd: I'm 11. I'm only in 11th place.

Host: Cool, man. Thank you so much for coming. We really appreciate it.

Jake Lloyd: It was cool.

Host: That was our last question. We got through a lot of them. Be sure to go out to your local video store, get the new "Star Wars." It's released this week worldwide. You can go to any country in the world and get it. See Jake. We'd love to have you back, you know.

Jake Lloyd: That would be cool.

Host: Cool. Thank you so much, man. Good luck with everything in the future. Have fun with all four Nintendos and your new Diet Coke.

Jake Lloyd: The Diet Coke's going to be my friend for a long, long time.

Host: Thank you so much, man. Thank you all. See you next time. Thanks for all of your great questions, and have a great night!
